Emotional Eating...Just Stop

I'm proud to say, I've conquered overeating and rarely do I emotionally eat, however, it does become very challenging around - ladies, you know what time I'm talking about. Recently,  I wrote a post, "Eating Ourselves to Death" which addressed the topic of eating, just to eat. I feel it's important to talk a little more about emotional eating.  We all have bad days, sad moments, and sometimes it may be good news that triggers us to want a celebratory meal or treat. We have been conditioned from childhood to eat when we mourn, eat to celebrate. I'm not suggesting that we stop eating at times like this because let's face it sometimes when we are with the family for these occasions we are going to share a meal together. What I am saying though is we should be mindful.

Stop. Let us ask ourselves. Will indulging in a chocolate chip cookie really make me feel better? Couldn't I just as easily talk to a loved one about my day? Perhaps go to the gym and workout my frustrations? These alternatives are healthier ways than to shovel food down our throats. Let us not eat out of pure emotion. Let us "Eat to live, not live to eat." Next time you are ready to emotionally eat...Just stop...Think about it, eating really does NOT solve any problem.
