Spring Break Cooking with Chrisetta

I was invited to do a two-day Spring Break Cooking Class for the youth of POIC/Rosemary Anderson High School. We started the class with a little food education, shopping planning/tips, and basic kitchen skills.

Day 1 went well, but there weren't many participants and the kids that did show up were a little apprehensive about being there.

Together we made Fresh Mexican Food: guacamole, salsa, corn salsa, cilantro lime rice, and spicy shredded chicken. They had the option of putting everything in a bowl or wrapping everything in burrito or taco shell.

All of the kids said they didn't like guacamole. The entire bowl of guacamole was gone and we used 12 avocados. Sure it was good, but I think it's also a testament that when kids are involved in making their food they are more likely to try and like it.

Day 2 all the kids eagerly returned and even told others to come too so we had an even larger group with parents included.

I showed them how to make Brown Bag Popcorn with honey butter and together we made Lettuce Wraps with Peanut Sauce and Teriyaki Sauce.

I really do love what I do! So grateful to help people realize how simple, delicious, and fun cooking can be!
