Feel Good Resources

Do me a favor...Do something that makes you feel good. Give something of yourself that helps others. I tell you, it is the GREATEST feeling.

I'm just in from the "5 or 50" Women’s Sustainable Weight Loss & Lifestyle Group that I founded and facilitate once a month. The group started out with about 20 and has seen numbers fluctuate. But, what hasn't changed is the feeling I get from our time together. Each month I chose a different health/wellness topic and a guest presenter. We've had a few women share their weight loss stories, a Certified Wellness Coach, a Nautropath, and a personal trainer to name a few.

Since our meetings are held at the library, I thought it would be nice to actually tap into the bounty of resources that the library has to offer. So, tonight our guest presenter was the branch librarian Teresa Torres. She showed us how to use the library database to search for vetted health/wellness information, gave us a tour of the health/wellness book section and the cookbook section (my cookbook so happened to be checked in).

The ladies were genuinely excited about the information we gathered. Some left with books and magazines, Kay left with a library card, Teresa was all smiles for being able to share and help, and I left feeling all warm and fuzzy. Thanks Teresa and to all the wonderful ladies who came out tonight.

I love what I do!

Outside of the Box at the Camas Public Library

Last night, I gave an obesity and health talk at the Camas Public Library. Since it was my first time visiting the branch, I browsed around before I made my way upstairs to the room where I would speak. What a quaint, charming library.

The Camas Farmers Market was in full swing outside of the library, inside the library was buzzing with patrons, and I was pleasantly surprised to see posters advertising my event all over the place.

We had a nice crowd of folks that came out: Including a faithful blog and FB follower, Debby and a cycling buddy, Louise. The crowd was engaged and asked lots of thoughtful questions, which made for a great discussion.

Thanks to everyone who came out. An extra-special thanks to the director, David Zavartink and Linda Swenton Assistant Library Director for welcoming me and making the event run smoothly.

You know how I feel about libraries in general, but I really really like this library. I look forward to another program or two in the future.

Fight or Flight

Research, research, research
Love, love, love what I do. I've become pretty active in the community sharing my story and helping others: Cooking classes, cookbook, speaking events, and blogging.  As a result, folks are starting to take notice of me. Awesome.

Recently, I was asked by a very reputable organization to work on a huge project. My first response was oh, my goodness. Yes! I was buzzing off the walls. Then about three days after the offer I became frantic. Scared. Nervous. Doubtful. My girlfriend reminded me, the first time we take on any project there are bound to be fears, doubt. It's the first time. There are so many unknowns. Besides, this is a really big opportunity. I should be nervous. I have lots of work to do.

Game on. Last night, I packed up my materials and went to the library and I'm so glad I did. The visit to the library was just what I needed. I was able to work in a different space, a new environment.  After spending hours researching and thumbing through countless books. I have a solid outline and clarity about the direction I plan to go in. I guess, we need the fear factor to kick in to bring out our best.

By the way, I love the public library. It totally rocks! While I'm working on this project, No doubt I'll spend lots of time there researching, writing, and hanging out.

Dewey Decimal

My greatest honor to date -- my convenient little self-published cookbook "Bringing Cooking Back" now has a dewey decimal number, 641.563 MOSLEY. Words really can't describe how elated I feel. I've always been a fan of the public library system -- promoting books, reading, literacy, and community activities.  Now, I am a part of this awesome system. Umm, umm, umm.

So, Clark County residents it's time to put your library cards to use.

From the librarian telling me it's a go:

Okay, the cataloging is done, your dewey decimal number is:

641.563

MOSLEY

The book will probably be sent out to our branches today. I noticed there was already a hold.

Congratulations!

The Obesity Epidemic is REAL!

The evidence of an epidemic is everywhere.

· Two-thirds, more than 190 million Americans are
overweight or obese.
